| 774636 | 2009-05-17 11:10:00 | I purchased a new Asus Eee PC 701 in feb 2008 from Dick Smiths, about july /august last year the charger stopped working suddenly...I returned it and it was duly replaced...now my 2nd charger is playing up again...it will only recharge my battery when the battery is completely dead, once the battery is recharged it , even if connected to the power supply the pc will run off the battery...it never used to do this...if connected to the power supply it ran off the power supply!! Has any one else had similar problems?..I got a feeling the charger is about to go on me again...wonder if they will replace it with another one free of charge!! Any reply's will be appreciated. Thanks |

By the sounds of it, the problem isn't with the charger, but rather with the control circuitry in the Eee PC itself. Laptops have control circuitry near the battery which decide when it's going to use the battery, when it's going to use the AC supply, and when and how long it's going to charge. The "charger" itself is just a glorified transformer (with some other circuitry of course). One thing you can try, is if you know someone with an Eee PC 701, try your battery and charger on their laptop. If it both are fine, then it it is most likely to be the control circuitry I mentioned before. In terms of getting this sorted, you are outside the 1yr warranty period on the netbooks, but DSE might be willing to do something about it - it's worth asking. |

Also there is some code in the system BIOS relating to battery charging . It would make more sense to be one of those causing the problem . The adaptor either provides the correct electric current or it doesn't . It can't decide not to charge your battery one day . As an example: My friend has a Dell Vostro 1310 . It would not charge the battery properly either . He was running version A13 BIOS . I searched the Dell website and found there was an updated BIOS version A15 . The notes say: Systems: Dell Vostro 1310 Series Version: A15 Build Date: 03/18/2009 ================================================= 1 . Optimize battery charge algorithm . ( . dell . com/support/downloads/download . aspx?c=nz&l=en&s=lca&releaseid=R215205&SystemID=VOS_N_1310&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=17543&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=7&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=305028" target="_blank">supportapj . dell . com) Updated to A15 and now the battery charges properly |
