| 774607 | 2009-05-17 04:16:00 | Hi I'd say I'm reasonably adept at fixing desktop PCs, but when it comes to laptops, I dont know where to start!. My friend said she closed the lid of her laptop and then soon after opened the lid again, only to find the notebook wouldn't power up again. These are the symptoms: -Nothing shows on screen -plugging in an external monitor, the monitor doesn't show anything either. -the power leds and the indicator leds above the keyboard light up -the wireless switch doesn't do anything (normally switching it on changes the wireless led from orange to blue, but now it just stays orange) -the hard drive led doesn't light up, so this probably means windows XP isn't even loading up -when I remove the hard drive and put it into an enclosure and plug it into my PC, it works fine (so this means its not the hard drive). -the back exhaust vent gets warm (but not any warmer than usual) so I know the cpu must be getting power... -plugging in the power jack makes the ring around it light up so it must mean the power brick is working... -the symptoms are the same whether the battery is in or not. What are some other things I can try to see why it isn't working? |

There should be a metal "button"(kinda) on each side of the Ram, all you have to do is press both firmly and release, and the RAM will pop out at an angle of 45 degrees. From there, slide it out |

The hard drive makes a noise, but I dont think fan is spinning; I can see the vanes don't appear to be moving through the hole at the bottom. But this wouldn't necessarily cause the laptop to stop booting right? The fan used to spin... | 774614 | 2009-05-17 07:37:00 | is the laptop Still under Warranty ? if so contact HP/Compaq. Seems many people are having the same problems with the V3000 Model Example of problems (www.hardwareanalysis.com) - thats only one forum - and mostly relating to board failure. |

| 774615 | 2009-05-17 07:45:00 | Hi It isn't under warranty anymore. Have I done everything I can? (Short of taking it all apart - but even then, I don't think laptops are designed to be tinkered with in the same way a desktop pc is, so I may end up doing damage) |
