774460 2009-05-17 00:27:00 Hey I was wondering is there a program that will defrag a single file for me?
Im currently defragging my parents pc using ultimate boot cd but their hibernation file has 86 fragments and is 1.5 gb and every time the defragger gets to it it takes ages to try and defrag it. Started at 10 yesterday morning and was only at 90% at 11pm.

774463 2009-05-17 00:42:00 yeah would like to disable hibernation but this is the computer that I talked about a long time ago (think it was my first post on PF1) with having a BSOD when I shutdown (pressf1.co.nz) and nothing worked so I just set hibernation up cause it was the only way to shutdown with out holding the power button in nedkelly (9059)

There is a utility called Defraggler, mentioned in the latest PCWorld mag, which they say will do that.

774467 2009-05-17 23:50:00 yeah +1 for Defraggler! It'll definitely sort you out :)

Run an Analysis of your main system drive, then click the File List tab. Tick the file you want defragged and hit "Defrag" :)

Works on a live system, doesnt require shutdowns etc :)

774468 2009-05-18 00:47:00 But shouldn't we be asking why a defrag should be taking 13 hrs to get to 90%??? I'd be much more concerned with the state of that partition. linw (53)
774469 2009-05-18 09:10:00 When my partners pc was new it would also take many hours to defrag.
It was an Acer and file system was FAT32.
I changed it from to NTFS and instantly the defrag problem was solved.
