| 775741 | 2009-05-21 22:36:00 | Hi, I am a bit puzzled. I have just rebuilt my system around a Phenom II 955 which AMD say has a core speed of 3200 MHz. SiSoft Sandra and Windows identify it as the above processor but say it has a core speed of 1.6GHz and the Windows Experience result is way low at 3.7 for the processor. Am I just being dumb or is there a fault with the processor or is there a motherboard setting I am missing. |

| 775742 | 2009-05-21 22:40:00 | Could be like some dual cores. It goes down in speed when its idle (1/2 of its original speed), and goes back to its original speed, when youre doing something. Unless it needs a BIOS update. WHAT speed does it show in the BIOS? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||

| 775744 | 2009-05-22 02:37:00 | I have come up with same issue before. I have noticed that when CPU is idle, it runs on 1 processor, But when loading some thing which needs more speed/power (eg: Adobe Reader) it uses 2 processor and cut loading time in half. Does this make sense ! |

| 775746 | 2009-05-22 06:19:00 | Had a look in the Bios and it says that it is a 3200 MHz chip. Everything is in Auto to let the Motherboard run the system but it never clicks above 1600. Running benchmarks should stress the processor to its proper speed in Auto but doesn't so it sounds like I do need to set the CPU multiplier manually. Anyone with a 955 and a Giga-byte MA790 FXT-UDP5 Motherboard confirm their configuration please? |

The manufacturers 'create' the advertised speed by taking the speed of each individual core, and multiplying by the number of cores. ie a 1600 MHz CPU with dual core gets marketed as 3200 MHz. Consequently, if your OS or software only supports a single core, your applications will run SLOWER than on a single core 2000MHz machine. Also, check if your benchmarking software is capable of dealing with multiple cores. |
