775389 2009-05-20 05:40:00 OK, it seems I can't seem to connect to any sites that I have never been to before, or haven't been to in ages.
OK let me rephrase that If I press refresh 3 - 6 times I do eventually get to the page, and once I have got there I don't have any issues accessing the page again

I get the standard message below

Address Not Found

www.noodle.com could not be found. Please check the name and try again.

The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.

* Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. "ww.mozilla.org" instead of

* Are you certain this domain address exists? Its registration may have expired.

* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection and DNS server settings.

* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

But if I press refresh 2-3 times the site comes up,

I have tried flushing my ip cache thingie
turning off Avira (my antivirus and firewall)
Using various browsers

using XP
Orcon is my ISP

775390 2009-05-20 05:45:00 In more than one browser?

What happens if you ping these new sites?

775391 2009-05-20 06:22:00 Yes In opera Firefox and IE

if i ping them they just time out.

edit---------
Ok I have just tried pinging random sites again and it doesn't time out, it tells me that

ping request could not find host sheep.com, please check the name and try again

775392 2009-05-20 06:27:00 I had a similar fault a few weeks ago. Firefox & Zone Alarm were conflicting somehow. Firefox wouldn't load any sites after the initial home page. Googled. Got rid of Zone Alarm & installed Comodo. Problem gone.
Do Avira have a firewall?

775393 2009-05-20 06:59:00 yes it has a firewall and webguard and the prob still occurs when they are both disabled Morgenmuffel (187)
775394 2009-05-20 07:03:00 Are you connecting via an Access point/switch?

Try connecting directly to the modem

775395 2009-05-20 07:11:00 Ok i think i have solved it, I have changed my DNS settings, which were set to automtically get the dns sever address, and i manually keyed in one orcon dns address and one opendns address and so far it seems to be working, although there do appear to be some name servers down according to opendns
