775475 2009-05-20 21:59:00 The 8E error code;

This is a very common bug check. To interpret it, you must identify which exception was generated. May also be reported as 0x1000008E.

Possible causes:
•Hard disk damage or failure
•Configuration problems with the BIOS, memory, hard disk, or other devices
•Incompatible device driver
•Incompatible software

As PCtek said -- if he used the CD that was in the drive :groan:

Lots of those items that are in those type of CD's Fixes can be done manually, or with Free software and Knowledge.

there are a heap with rundll32.exe hanging Highly unlikely thats a board problem.

While The big name places can be a pain sometimes to get Hardware fixed HP for example have a GOOD policy --

Reinstall the OS - take it back to factory standard, IF the PC still plays up then they will look at hardware problems.

If a "tech" relies on a CD like that to make a conclusive diagnostic and comes to the decision the boards faulty - their skill level is not very good.

775476 2009-05-20 22:16:00 Send the dmp file to me via pm/email. I'll get the debugging tools and see what maybe causing it Speedy Gonzales (78)
775477 2009-05-21 02:45:00 Well it copuld be the viruses you removed were causing the crashes. Doesnt Conficker cause random shutdowns? robjg63 (13548)
775478 2009-05-21 03:04:00 Rustock (trojan horse / rootkit) wasnt one of these files you removed was it?? This can cause that stop error. Did you write down WHAT viruses / malware were detected / removed? Speedy Gonzales (78)
775479 2009-05-21 09:18:00 One of the files removed was sys32.exe

When I scanned, I used the original AV (Antivir - which said the computer was clean), Malwarebytes (which picked up 2 files including sys32.exe), and the current AV (Avast - which picked up the sys restore copies of those 2 files)

Also when I was looking at the computer, I noticed the cd drive would keep coming to an abrupt halt and you could hear the disc sliding a little, so replaced that. Also replaced the old Fujitsu (20GB) hd with an old Seagate (40GB)

Computer has now been on 24+ hours doing various tasks (played a few games, surfed the web. etc). No problems; nothing in event viewer

775480 2009-05-21 09:54:00 sys32 is certainly a bug Bit more info on it ( . greatis . com/appdata/d/s/sys32 . exe . htm" target="_blank">www . greatis . com)

Just to be completely sure - get from my sig, Spybot S&D as well as Super antispyware .

Malwarebytes doesn't catch every thing - no one Antispyware program will .

Sounds like this so called "tech" is a cowboy or trying to make money by ripping people off -- wonder what he would say if he was told it was only spyware or possibly a faulty optical Drive causing the crashing :D
