| 612203 | 2007-11-17 22:30:00 | Joe, I think theyve banned Trichoethylene in NZ . Nor sure why but I used to use it by the gallon . WHY? Because it goes right for the liver and kidneys and causes a lot of damage to them . We have "Tric" wards in the medical facilities here from it as it was used as a brush cleaner a bunch of years ago and a lot of old painters who would normally drink mineral spirits (don't ask me why) destroyed their internals with the stuff . Same with DMSO (DiMethyl SulfOxide - An industrial solvent sometimes used topically to reduce pain and swelling, and as a drug-delivery system, because it penetrates the skin quickly and deeply without damaging it . You can get DMSO at any veterinarian or health food store . ) . . it is a brush cleaner and has wonderful anti-arthritis properties . . but they are going to ban it soon too . |

A couple of my old bosses who used to figuratively bathe in the stuff are still alive and in their 90s . I do remember we were warned about inhaling the fumes through a cigarette though . I think it was once used as an anaesthetic too, much the same as chloroform . Oh dear, isnt it a bugger that these days everything is going to kill you, according to someone? :D |

| 612206 | 2007-11-22 01:15:00 | had fun trying to find the damn stuff (2.26), found DSE sells it, but as clearance product, so no stores near me of course.. Said there on DSE's site, and I quote: "The solvent system in 2.26 will degrease but naturally it is not as effective as Lectra-Clean" This shop (www.telesound.co.nz) sells both, so do you reckon I should go for the Lectra Clean instead? |

| 612207 | 2007-11-22 01:48:00 | Try an electrical wholesaler (telephone first) or get CRC 5-56 from a service station. They both work equally well. Cheers Billy 8-{) |
