611835 2007-11-16 04:06:00 And, "Rogue snowfalls" Wonder what one of them looks like?

Ken

Ken, tsk tsk, I thought you would know this. They look like Rogue waves, except they aren't as wet.

611836 2007-11-16 04:16:00 And:

At the end of the day

Onboard

And my most hated word of the lot:

Concerning.

As in We find this concerning.

Concerning means about.
Illiterate heathens.

pctek, please add to your list "I mean...". The Hairy Upper Lip on TV One says it every phrase, and so does the Lack of Intellect one - the TV One Espiner brother. They use it as an alternative to "um". (The other Espiner brother trots out a column in The Press - usually full of mistakes, like referring to Winnie Laban as being a Maori MP. Sometimes we get both him and Karl du Frenzy in the one week, which is a bit much.)

I do wonder (quite frequently actually) how journalism tutors look at themselves in the morning. What do they see when they look in the mirror? How can they feel good about a lifetime career churning out the plonkers that get employment as journalists?

Oh, and with my first rant over, please add "icon" and "iconic" to the list. A TV One plonker used both words three times in one sycophantic sentence last night... The word used to mean something, and probably still does in a Russian Orthodox church. Second rant over. I'll just go inside and watch the news to build up another head of steam.

611837 2007-11-16 04:44:00 How about See yah. (hopes you come back) and also Raglan, Colville & Plenty weather weather forecasts?

Should this be Bay of Plenty?

It may not be too long before before we get txt news.

Intuative is a good word as well. This works for operating systems as well I am told.

611839 2007-11-16 09:24:00 How about "OFFSHORE"
Dictionary- "away from or some distance from the shore, sited or conducted at sea."
Actually the marine definition of offshore is the area between the 12 mile limit and extreme limits (ie the 200 mile limit) - I don't know of too many banks in that area, or call centres, companies. factories etc.
What was wrong with the traditional expressions of overseas or foreign.
Some bloody high profile yank used it, and then everyone jumped on the bandwagon, without thinking that what they were saying is a nonsense.

Yes jumping on the band waggon seems to be the the thing that annoys me.
At school we used to call this being a copycat. Does it denote a sheep like quality in some people who just have to follow the leader. I cringe at the supermarket when the checkout lass says " have a nice day".
Somebody has a RAFT of suggestions and I often think that when someone has COME ONBOARD they must be getting on this raft. Oh well AT THE END OF THE DAY and AT THIS POINT IN TIME , IN TERMS OF all we have said
I pray for originality and individuality even to the point of eccentricity in my fellow man. Thank you all for your interesting responses. Cheers.:nerd: :nerd:
