775432	2009-05-20 05:53:00	Hi Folks. Using Vista and Windows Mail. When I open a new mail - Create Mail - and type one letter in the To: box, the system generates a "suggestion list" of names and email addresses. Clicking on any one places the details in the To: box. I normally never use this, from habit clicking on the word To: and selecting from the contents of my Contacts list. I recently noticed that my wife used the single character method and that the "suggestion list" contains names and email addresses that are not in the Contacts list. They seem to be people we have dealt with at some time but I can't work out how to delete them, or, indeed, how they got in to this list. Any knowledge. Thanks :confused:	Scouse (83)

Yes I thought that originally, but the list offered automatically differs from Contacts and deleting a name from Contacts as an experiment, does not delete it from this alien list. Interesting. My wife tells me that she recognises some of the names as people she has dealt with ohn Trade Me. They are definitely not in the Contacts list. :confused:	Scouse (83)

They are definitely not in the Contacts list. :confused: Eudora does this as well. Are the emails still in your Inbox or other Windows Mail folders? In Eudora, once the emails have been deleted the addresses no longer appear in the "suggestion" list. A long shot but if the emails have gone, try compacting the folders.	FoxyMX (5)
775436	2009-05-20 07:11:00	In outlook 03 you can scroll through the names suggested only using the arrow keys and once the one you don't want is highlighted you can delete it with the delete button on the keyboard. Don't know about in 07 but yes unfortunately this seems to be a keyboard only fix	gary67 (56)
775437	2009-05-21 06:25:00	Hi pctek, Foxy and Gary. Thanks to Gary's keyboard fix I can now delete an item. Still intrigued as to where this offered list is stored and how generated. I find that a number of addresses I have previously deleted in the correct way from Contacts are still in this list and several names which were modified over a period of time when the users changed their email addresses can appear with the old "deleted" address and the new address. Many names and addresses genuinely in the Contacts list do not front up in this helpful list offered when a single alpha character is entered in to the To: box. Odd. :confused:	Scouse (83)

775440	2009-05-21 10:16:00	That is known as the auto-complete function. Windows Mail does not auto-complete from your contacts list. It uses a separate list of the last 29 recipients you've sent mail to, so addresses you haven't used in a while will drop off the remembered list. If you are looking to delete the whole cache than it can be done by going to Open regedit and navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Recently Used Addresses" and delete the "Recently Used Addresses" This will delete your address cache and when you starting typing address again than it will create a new recently used addresses folder.
