775141 2009-05-19 08:36:00 Hi. In Win XP SP3, can you delete folders (under 'Windows') beginning and ending in '$'? These are invariably in blue and often feature the word 'uninstall'? If they relate to new programs, I presume you should hold onto them and contents until the new program has been found to be stable?? Cheers A Team (13613)
775142 2009-05-19 08:43:00 The blue means theyre compressed. The $ folders are the XP update uninstall files. So if you dont want to uninstall any updates you can delete them. Or use ccleaner / cleaner tab / windows tab. Tick hotfix uninstallers down the bottom, it'll delete them for you. BUT if you want to uninstall any updates, you cant, if you do this Speedy Gonzales (78)
775143 2009-05-19 08:46:00 As Speedy said-they are uninstallers that can be used to remove an update.

If you do not want compressed or encrypted files/folders to appear in colour, then you go to tools>folder options>view tab>Untick show compressed/encrypted files in colour
