611801 2007-11-15 16:02:00 A friend...in another part of the US asked my why she cannot use a Hotmail account to purchase things online from sites.

They say a Hotmail account is not sufficient to use for their site and the person ordering must have a regular e-mail account to order.

Her use of English is superb and she didn't txtml any forms or order blanks..so she shouldda been understood.

I can understand txtrs not being allowed on some sites (why not all?), but this is just strange.

Whazzup wit that?

She finally got a GMail account and her order went right through OK.

There are a few sites out there which ban the use of hotmail accounts (as well as other free e-mail address accounts like g-mail, Yahoo! etc…) as those sites, I guess in the past have had problems with people spamming there site or make fake orders etc…

Hope this helps :)

That is fair enough too, as many spammers ue hotmail/gmail/yaho acounts to spam, and these free email companies don't do anything to control their users.

That is one of the problems with Xtra using the services of a free email company (yahoo) to use for thei premium paying xtra customers. It means that thse companies that block yahoo IPs due to spam, may also block @xtra.co.nz email adresses.
