| 1438633 | 2017-08-29 08:01:00 | I have an HP Stream G3 with EFI G? system. I have Linux FatDog64 on a ext4 partition. I have a USB Flash stick with a loader on it to boot FDog. There is a miniature SD slot which I maybe able to boot from. The BIOS only has boot settings for ssd, USB stick, and USB external Optical drive. Would there be any way to get it to boot from the SD Card? I don't want to buy a Card if it can't work. | mzee (3324) | ||

| 1438637 | 2017-08-31 06:15:00 | You do not need the ability to boot from sd by the bios/efi but can use your bootloader to boot the device. Grub is quite a powerful bootloader with the ability to chain to other bootloaders from other devices it can see. It only adds extra steps to booting but its quite handy to use on computers that don't support booting from usb, iso, etc. So if you are using grub, you maybe able to add another menu entry to boot from your sd card (mmc) as long as grub can see it. I'm on my phone but when I get home, I'll attempt to add the grub entry and give more specific details on how to do it. Otherwise you maybe better off just getting a usb memory card reader, you can sometimes get them bundled with sd cards or on their own. |
