1437878 2017-08-01 02:36:00 My Canon MG5460 is giving me trouble. I need some help sorting it out please. The Manual is very confusing.

Initially it was missing a lot of the printing and tried some troubleshooting, but now I am informed that the printer is offline. I have checked the USB connection which appears ok.

I am afraid that I have forgotten how to proceed. Can someone advise please.?

1437879 2017-08-01 04:53:00 1st thing to have a look at, open the print Queue, click on the "printer" in the menu bar, make sure "use Offline" & "Pause Printing" is NOT selected.

If its all OK, go to the printer, right click it, Printer Properties / Ports Tab, make sure the USB port for the printer is selected, sometimes they get confuddled.

Sometimes you may have to go into the device manager, locate the USB port the printer is attached to, uninstall it, make sure the printer is unplugged, reboot, allowing the port to reinstall. Then plug the Printer back in, you can also try another Port.

If that fails, check you have a spare cable just incase the USB cable is faulty.

1437880 2017-08-01 04:58:00 I have got my Printer online ok. Have re-seated the USB plug. Have checked that I have the best driver installed, but it is still not printing correctly.

All the inks are near full, so I have a lot invested in them and don't want a new Printer if I can avoid it. What else can I try.?

A better description please :)

If its like a line of missed print on the page , like the letters are only part there...
then the print head is stuffed , (or the ink carts are bad )

Try a deep clean, via the printer software/driver .
Try another ink cart . Ive had bad ink carts , especially non genuine ones.

If a deep clean cant fix it, you are pretty much stuffed .
New print heads can sometimes be fitted, but the cost isnt worth it , and there may also be issue with the pumps .
If you are lucky, you may find another printer that will take you ink carts , but thats unlikely unless your printer is a current model.

I think you are correct and that the printer has given up the ghost. Now to consider a replacement.

1437884 2017-08-05 03:49:00 In case anyone is interested I finally cleaned the print head and it is now printing perfectly. The only downside is that it used a hell of a lot of ink in the process.

You can't win with these printer manufacturers eh?.

1437885 2017-08-05 05:46:00 Thats why personally I don't use inkjets. I only have lasers here.

Some of the advantages -- No ink to dry up and block heads, toner doesn't evaporate like ink, instant dry, no "head cleaning processes" all the time, often cheaper in the long run as toner can last for years in a printer even if its not used.

1437886 2017-08-05 06:34:00 I intend to make my next printer a laser as I can now see all the advantages. Pato (2463)
