1438597 2017-08-28 05:08:00 If you want to remove the Backup Program, according to MS's site:

To remove this download:

To remove the download file itself, delete the file pfbackup.exe.
On the Start menu, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
In the list of currently installed programs, select Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders Backup and then click Remove or Add/Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.
Click Yes or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program.

Source (www.microsoft.com).

If its still playing up, you can try scanning it with the self repair.

here's a contradiction in terms ;) Backup the .pst file first -- Simple way go directly to the .pst file

location --- C:\Users\User name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Note the appdata is a hidden folder so unhide it first, or if you go into your Control panel, Mail, Data File - select the .pst file - Open file location, then simply right click / Copy -- Paste to somewhere else.

Then to run the repair, search for scanpst.exe. In Outlook 2007:

Outlook 2007
32-bit Windows; C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\
64-bit Windows; C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\

See if it finds and fixes any problems. If it all turns to custard, no problems you made a back before :D Just put that back.

1438598 2017-08-28 05:53:00 One other way to tell if its an add-in or similar, press the win+r key, (run) Type in outlook.exe /safe Open outlook, if it loads normally then there is an add-in causing a problem. The command opens outlook in its safe mode. If you have the iphone /Apple add-in that WILL cause endless problems. wainuitech (129)
1438599 2017-08-28 06:48:00 Thanks Tony and Wainuitech. I will try the repair route since the entry in add/remove is no longer there following my uninstall attempt. I have made a backup of the .pst file but I'm hoping I won't need it. I have never had a satisfactory retrieval of a backed-up .pst file although that's probably due to me trying to do it by braille! In other words, feeling my way blindly. However, this is one time when I really don't want to have to start again from a reinstall if I can possibly avoid it. Maybe my patience has vanished along with my youthful vitality! Blue Druid (4480)
