They will have a working group to look into options . All to easy to stack the working group to suit the outcome they want (Nat does this as well). Those with property investments & 2nd homes wont be voting labor, so labor have nothing to loose with a CGT. This election is turning into a lolly scramble. Both parties effectively trying to buy votes. Anyone would think NZ didnt have a huge debt burden. There is no surplus , we simply havnt been paying of debt, spending up instead . |

It will not decrease the price of houses, it will increase them. Then we will all pay more with higher accomodation supplement handouts. PS I only have my own home (for which I am very thankful) |

Also, Tighter regulation of the rental market will happen, just as it has in other countries, the wild west of the NZ rental market will eventually be brought under control. |

Seems to me, that unless you are an investor, flicking houses to make your living, who cares? Or is it a thinly veiled bleat about beneficiaries again? You know taxes are used for all sorts of things, medical treatment, schooling, transport stuff, supplying the army etc. I really don't care much about taxes, we get services in exchange....or do you prefer the old style, pay taxes to some king so he can A)have a lavish lifestyle and B)afford to attack the neighbours and accumulate more stuff for himself? That's how it used to work, and you, the taxpayer didn't get to walk on the land, or hunt the animals, or collect firewood etc. You got nothing really, except perhaps an additional requirement to join the fight, and hand over your food as well. How much tax money goes to beneficiaries isn't that high anyway, and the majority of that is actually to pensioners. Its not all handing over YOUR personal pay check to the local Mongrel Mob guy collecting dole while burgling your house and beating up the local dairy owner. YOUR pay check is quite good, really and while I may wish more of the tax I give goes to certain services more so than others, really, it's the govts decision. Matter of balance and someone somewhere will always moan however it's allocated. They should, IMO, concentrate more on the large corporates avoidance schemes, but hey, there you go.... |
