1438573 2017-08-27 05:47:00 How to remove old silicone sealant from kitchen bench top?

Cheers

1438574 2017-08-27 06:00:00 What is the benchtop surface? Vinyl, Seratone, Marble? Maybe a new, sharp window type scraper used very carefully. I don't know of any solvent for old silicone.

Just tried google, try this www.selleys.co.nz

1438575 2017-08-27 07:04:00 when I was installing kitchens we used a solvent called Pegasol to remove silicone before it had cured, not sure if it will work on already cured silicone though. gary67 (56)
1438576 2017-08-27 07:50:00 Combination of Turps and a scraper.
The shops will sell you special silicon solvents - turps is all you need.

1438578 2017-08-27 10:31:00 WD40 will do the job? I have a bottle of WD40 , will try it tomorrow. bk T (215)
1438579 2017-08-27 20:15:00 I just used to cut it out. And a scraper. Not found a solvent I was happy with. psycik (12851)
1438580 2017-08-27 21:00:00 As a former tradie I would be careful what you use to remove the sealant.
If you are going to be applying new sealant, you don't want to finish up with a surface that won't accept or bond with it.

Spot on.

I will need to apply new sealant. What's your professional advice? :)

1438582 2017-08-28 01:40:00 Husband was a plumber......
We did our bathroom a few weeks ago, and used Turps.
Then applied new silicon.

Its cheaper and it works.
