If I delete an email is it gone forever? Or will it still be on webmail or the server? Thanks. PJ

1438480 2017-08-22 04:21:00 Depends on what your mail client is set to do. fred_fish (15241)

1438482 2017-08-22 05:00:00 And the mail server. Eg gmail if you delete a mail it goes into a bin folder for 30 days...
Outlook if it downloads the message means its gone from the server (if pop) and if deleted it can go to a recycle bin, or if the option if on, it may permanently delete.
If imap connection, deleting keeps the message until the server is updated or deleted immediately. I think they're both options.

For all other mail clients, any combinations may apply.

I will have to accept that it has gone then. PJ

1438484 2017-08-22 07:59:00 If you wanted to keep an email, you could try and create a Folder on the Desktop, say My Email's, and drag the email to the Folder. I just tried it in MS Outlook 2007 and it worked. It won't help your present situation but it will protect any future emails that you want to keep. Have you got a previous backup somewhere that you could get into and see if it has the emails you want? Bryan (147)
1438485 2017-08-22 22:00:00 did you delete that email in outlook : if so it can possibly be recovered . Its not easy but can be attempted , if it was recent.

did you delete that email in webmail : if so ask the email host if they can recover it . By law (in NZ) , they have to keep copies of everyones email, for the spies to have a look at if
requested .

Also, it depends how long ago it was deleted

I do have personal named folders on the left hand side of the Outlook Email Inbox. Any messages I want to keep I "Move" them there. Given the state of my shaky hands, that would be the cause of my Losses. Thank heavens for Grammar & Spellcheck. I have to accept that data has gone.
Thanks everybody PJ.....Closed.

1438487 2017-08-23 21:02:00 I don't keep emails at all.
If I need the info for some reason, I save that as a file and save the file.
If I need the contact, then save the contact.
