1438370 2017-08-20 10:06:00 My yearly sub for Trend Micro Internet Security is running out and I need to renew PQ. However, costs being what they are, I'm looking at my options. Have checked out the ESet Internet Security but that costs even more.
So, just wondering if any readers have had recent experience of any of the current freebies and can tell me if any are worth looking at at the moment. Many thanks

1438371 2017-08-20 10:11:00 Just go for NOD32. Blows everything else out of the water. pcuser42 (130)

1438373 2017-08-20 21:53:00 "Internet Security " packages are often loaded up with uneeded crap & tend to be less reliable

Kaspersky now have a free for a year option.
or McAffe is free for Spark internet customers , download from Spark
Bitdefender have a freebee, its often very hard to find though

The usual freebee AVG/Avast/Avir are horrid: too many popups & scareware tactics

Best paid option , NOD32 AV . (best overall, it isnt necessarily the best at detection & removal)
Good products cost money , so yes NOD costs more

1438374 2017-08-20 22:21:00 Eset NOD32 IMO is the best option hands down. Can't stand Trend. Bloated, heavy, borderline adware. wratterus (105)
1438375 2017-08-20 23:03:00 Are NOD still offering the cheaper crossgrade option ? 1101 (13337)

1438377 2017-08-21 00:07:00 If Trend can deal out Trump I'm in.
Don't bother with paid AV myself,
I just use a combo of Windows Defender/Security Essentials, occasional scans with Malwarebytes, Eset online scanner, etc and a healthy dose of common sense.

That will work just fine so long as the emphasis is firmly placed on the use of common sense. It is in short supply with some users.

1438379 2017-08-21 01:26:00 Yep, it's definitely not for all.
But even the best AV will not protect a careless user forever.
