614163 2007-11-23 02:48:00 After 10 years our VCR really went down. I cannot complain - it has never given any trouble until last night.
So I must update - at the moment I fancy a SONY 160gb hard drive which is priced at $600
But I get different stories
Dick Smiths tell me that model is no longer made so they don't stock it.
Bond & Bond tell me that the device will date stamp my recordings
Sony who should know tell me it will not date stamp.
So am I doing the right thing. I would like it even better if I could have teletext subtitles also recorded.
Any users with their comments would be helpful.
I am in CONSUMERS and they reckon it is best buy but then I have found sometimes even consumers get it wrong!

614164 2007-11-23 08:04:00 From past comments,it seems Sony make as good as any.

I will get one soon and I think at this point it will be a Sony.

614166 2007-11-24 01:07:00 I have a Sony which works great.

Be wary of the Panasonic 250Gb ones they are not multi zone for playback.

614167 2007-11-24 01:54:00 Thanks all - I went out and got a Sony.
I am amazed at just how good it is.
Not perfect. I like the way my computers can play a DVD and then if I go back weeks later to finish it asks me if I want to play from where I left off last time.
The Sony will not do that. But otherwise it is terrific. And the menus are so logical compared with many I have fought in the past!
I did get a little confused by the way it refers to copying to DVD disks form the hard drive as "dubbing"

They love to confuse us Tommy.

I think they employ someone to write in the confusion,at least that is what one might think.
