614203 2007-11-23 05:41:00 I have recently been head hunted by an Australian company to move to Oz, and they are offering me a fantastic offer in terms of wages, the amount of holiday, and other lifestyle benefits. I have been holding off moving to Oz for several years, but am now seriously considering it. I also think I could do with a change.
I would be interested to find out how many other people of working age here in NZ are thinking of heading off to Oz.

WOW, go for it mate, all the best, I spent 15 years abroad & I reckon you would never regret the decision. There will of course be times when you will miss your friends etc, however, if you are motivated, you will make heaps of new friends and you and your family will have the opportunity to grow beyond anything you would aspire to here, trust me on that.

614204 2007-11-23 05:54:00 Why do you keep asking a clutter of questions?

I like to inquire so I get the motivation and the truth.
I assume nothing!

Why did you ask me this one question?

Great reply.

Why are you in New Zealand may I ask?
My answer is that it works for me.

Australia worked for some 12 years until I was on call 24/7.

I still have friends and a brother in Australia.

Like whom?

And anyway we need to ascertain the problem to be able to solve it.
Unfortunately I am not able to see the real problem from where I am sitting.

Questions elicit answers or not as the case may be.

I just happen to be a 5th generation Kiwi.

On the other hand you leave the country you were born in apparently.

Welcome to New Zealand.

614208 2007-11-23 06:27:00 Will seriously consider it when I retire, may even consider Europe or Asia porkster (6331)
614209 2007-11-23 06:28:00 At around ~$200 and ~3 hours for air travel, automatic resident rights and a culture substantially similar to New Zealand's, it is not that much of a change. I consider it like moving towns more than countries.

And yes, the opportunities are substantially better.

614211 2007-11-23 08:59:00 I made the move almost 3 years ago at the age of 65, bought a management rights business, and have absolutely no regrets. Wish I had done it years ago, and regret I didn't.
I live in Brisbane, great city, good lifestyle, and apart from the drought, the odd venomous snake in the garden, I can't fault it in comparison to Auckland.
For many people the move can be daunting, uprooting ones family and getting settled in. The biggest problem is always getting established with a good job.
If you have a good job waiting, jump at it, rather than in years to come saying " If only I had ...
PS. One big benefit is one does not have to put up with Helen Clark on the TV nearly every bloody night!

Let me say just this:

Opportunity knocks but once.

If you’ve got the goods and they want them you’d have to be criminally insane not to jump at the opportunity.

I’ve spent about six of the last twelve months between the two countries and although they have idiots too, they will never match us in that respect.

After 65 years in this country and as a fourth generation Kiwi I’ve had a guts full and I’m off as soon as I get the loose ends tidied up.

New Zealand had been stuffed by the “PC Brigade” and the “Career Politicians”.
