612857 2007-11-19 00:44:00 On one hand this NCEA is hilarious, but on the other it is damn right tragic.

I had a young lady stay with us, when her father and mother, complete with other siblings, headed to Australia. She stayed to complete her last years schooling here and she passed a number of NCEA subjects with flying colours.

Her ambition was to become a Lawyer.

However, when she got to Australia her New Zealand NCEA qualifications weren’t worth the paper they were printed on and she was told straight up that she would have to go back to school over there and obtain the appropriate Australian qualifications. NCEA didn’t cut it over there.

The tragedy was that when last heard of she was a checkout chick in a Supermarket.

Her NCEA was of no use whatsoever in Australia, nor I suggest, anywhere else by now.

The idiots that invented and support this nonsense should be publicly flogged. :angry

Hell yeah, of course . It's our future they're toying with . And we're paying those f***ing useless miscreants $75 each year for ruining our future just to receive a budget piece of paper saying I've passed child's play .

NCEA seem to be going downhill with each year. At this rate, give it 10-15 years and all our students will be dumbasses who can't write proper in english

612861 2007-11-19 04:13:00 Well I'm going to write my exams in fluent English, dammit.

It's an absolute joke allowing text speak. How can it possibly be considered acceptable in a written national examination?

Can I write the exam in clingon (there are some people screwed up enough to know it)? But what if I understand the concept??

612862 2007-11-19 04:34:00 I'll bet if the exam were written in Te Reo Maori (our second national language) it would be a fail. So why allow text speak? Myth (110)
612863 2007-11-19 05:10:00 Can I write the exam in clingon

612864 2007-11-19 05:15:00 I'll bet if the exam were written in Te Reo Maori (our second national language) it would be a fail. So why allow text speak?Unfortunately, as an official language of NZ, it's illegal to discriminate against someone for choosing to speak only in Maori :groan:. You're not actually allowed to require the student to use English, except in an English exam. The rest of the time they are allowed the option of using Maori.

Bloody politicians...

612865 2007-11-19 06:25:00 This is really messed up!

Anybody watched "Are you smarter than a 10yr old" on TV? Seen how many people fail? Most people! And they had to write in full english, not txt-speak... Just think how screwed up they'd all be if they were allowd to use some form of shorthand writing... I watch that TV show and piss myself laughing at how stupid some are... "A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, so therefor a lunar eclipse must be when the Sun passes between the earth and the moon!"

#%@$ !!!

612866 2007-11-19 06:58:00 Français quiconque?

And... "Are you smarter than a 10yr old?" program is not taking a proper representative of the ten year old kids. Heck, Dominic should pick adult geniuses vs 10 year old geniuses! :annoyed:
