775930 2009-05-22 05:40:00 The quality is better than everything else out there, apart from DVI, which is essentially the same thing.

It also (normally) transmits audio, as long as the cable is 1.3 standard and the TV and Laptop support it.

Don't be fooled into paying $100s for a cable, the el-cheapo digitus (or whatever) jobbie will do the job just as well, for a fraction of the price.

Something like that would be fine - what length do you want?

HDMI is best, same quality as DVI but also transmits sound along with video while DVI transfers video data only.

If your laptop can't output to a high resolution then using HDMI or VGA won't make a difference, but at higher resolutions HDMI is a digital connection whilst VGA is analogue, so on HDMI the picture will look much better.

Get your cables here, cheap, and great service:)

775932 2009-05-22 06:06:00 Thanks lads.
I am thinking of getting a laptop and note some do not have HDMI connections, just wondered what the story was.

I have lots of films on exteral H/D which I could watch on my TV if I had the laptop.

You could still watch the videos - so long as the laptop as TV-out (which most do).

The only disadvantage of this is that you would have to have the sound coming out of your laptop speakers, or some other pc speakers :(.

775934 2009-05-22 06:49:00 It's not hard to connect a laptop to a TV or stereo/home theatre system for just the sound if the HDMI doens't do the job, just requires a 3.5mm to RCA cable, or something similar. Only a few $$ worth.

If you do get a new laptop Cic, I would highly recomend finding one with HDMI out if you want to use it to watch movies on a LCD or Plasma TV.

Again, thanks lads.

Seems I must get HDMI out on my new laptop, being the best way to transmit info to a LCD TV.
