614819 2007-11-25 01:08:00 Looking into tinting my windows to reduce the heat & UV from the hot afternoon sun coming to my bedroom the the lounge area. Any particular brand /make to recommend? I notice (from Trademe) that the price varies quite alot. Advice from current users will be much appreciated.

It's better to buy from Trademe or from retailers? I'm a bit hesitated in buying anything from Trademe, especially those don't allow pickup. Why are they afraid of direct contacts with their customers?

614820 2007-11-25 01:27:00 I'd stick with 3M products. (solutions.3m.com)

They have the highest standards and the best track record.

Some cheap films use metals in them and these interfere with WIFI, cellphones and general radio propagation.

614823 2007-11-25 05:54:00 Just be aware that applying window film can be difficult to get right. We had some frosted film put in professionally, which while more expensive, meant that it was done properly. somebody (208)
614824 2007-11-25 07:08:00 Get a pro to do it. Can't remember who we used but we had the whole house done.

Darker tint on front windows, we see out nobody sees in except at night with the lights on, the rest of the house is lighter, but all UV protection.

The people that put it on suggested strongly that we don't change our mind once it is on because it is a ***** to get off again.
From memory it was a 20 year warranty or something similar

It varies from $15 to $80 /m. This is why I need feed backs from those who have used / done it before. Don't quite like the idea of buying stuff from Trademe especially those who don't allow pick-ups - what are they trying to HIDE?

Still hunting a retailer in my area - found one in Manukau last night. But, I'm sure there are others in this region.

Applying the film is not a big job - just follow some basic steps. Of course, not everybody can do it. Hanging wall-paper is much more difficult to do than applying the window tint film, that's what I reckon.

Fully endorse Somebodys recommendation.

It is a skilled job applying the film and it would be false economy to do it yourself.

We had our windows done ten years ago and they are still perfect

614828 2007-11-26 03:49:00 The Boss has booked our "new" 4WD in to have the three rear windows done as our previous vehicle had tinted windows and it keeps a lot of the heat (and nosy parkers) out. It's going to take four hours to do apparently. :stare: FoxyMX (5)
