For the past two years, the security engineer for n.runs has taken a close look at the way antivirus software inspects email traffic, and he thinks companies that try to improve security by checking data with more than one antivirus engine may actually be making things worse. Why? Because bugs in the "parser" software used to examine different file formats can easily be exploited by attackers, so increasing your use of antivirus software increases the chances that you could be successfully attacked. computerworld.co.nz |

And in the end, they'll kill each other / conflict. Then crash / freeze the system. And you'll have no protection at all. And get hacked. If you've got something like a trojan. And some AV programs will conflict with each other (if they do the same thing like scan email). You'll soon know about it, one of the programs will tell you they're conflicting (like ZA and Avast told me). When ZA was installed. Then BAM. It froze the system. Thats when I found out Avast conflicted with ZA I.S I think it was (coz of the Kaspersky engine it uses). |

| 614752 | 2007-11-24 18:35:00 | It still worked tho (BUT, only if I disabled the AV part in ZA). I had to uninstall ZA IS to fix it, in safe mode coz if I rebooted, it would freeze since the AV option (since it froze), was still enabled. If I wanted to reinstall ZA to use it again, I would have to disable the AV after I had reinstalled it. BUT, then what was the point in having the option (or that version of ZA), if I couldnt use it. |
