614583 2007-11-24 02:24:00 Hey peeps :D

I have just had some metal work done... After falling off my bike going up the street (turning a corner and tyres slipped on some gravel and off I came) I broke my right wrist in two places and crushed the bones into each other AND dislocated my wrist... and a few grazes  This is the worst damage I have done in my 19 years.

I was in hopital for 2 days...

Now I have a metal plate in my wrist holding it all together and will be in for life... :D all quite impressive I thought!

I got a copy of the xrays I might try and post to show the damage :D

What damages have other members suffered from?

614584 2007-11-24 03:19:00

Thought you were gonna go on to say you had your bike fixed, thus metal work. Guess not. :p

Worst damage I have done is chopped the top of the bone off my left thumb.
I opt for full size axes now

The only other thing I can think of is playing golf and hitting a tree, which came back and hit me...in the head.

614587 2007-11-24 04:01:00 I might add it was a mountain bkie...

Was kinda funny, I can see the funny side which is good :D one of my cousins says she is going to get me a metal detector for Xmas. Ha ha.

Somebody: Yes, I know, first trial is at the end of the year, going to Oz :D

Doesn't set them off.

Someone I know has the same metal pin in her ankle....been through numerous airport scanners at Int'l airports and nothing. Even in the "everyone's a terrorist" environment we live in.

614589 2007-11-24 05:38:00 Titanium rod and screws, (you can see the screws under the skin), in left tibia which was broken in three places in a motor cycle accident 1996.

Extensive neck and facial scarring in a motorcar accident 1968, I was the passenger, the car went into a lamp post, my forehead broke the windscreen glass and my neck chopped down on the broken piece left in the window. I cut my jugular had to hold it to stop the blood pumping out in squirts until I got to the hospital. I could still see when I closed my right eyelid because it was cut right across, also really bad cut on my lip. I had glass coming out of my face for months afterwards.

Nobody wanted to take me in their car because I was covered in blood from head to foot and it would have messed up their car interior, lol. No ambulances in Zambia. I had >150 stitches in my face and neck.

They took out the facial stitches too early contributing to the scar tissue build up, but many years have passed and now nobody really notices and almost nobody asks what happened to my face. Only when I go overseas does anyone ask, Kiwis are too polite or maybe scared to ask, I guess, I must look to them as if I have been in a knife fight, lol. Some females are intrigued though, ha ha.

614590 2007-11-24 05:52:00 On a bike? Well on a bmx bike I did a royal one, a friend made a ramp in Raglan, so I borrowed one of his bikes to have a go. He said it was sweet. So yea, after a few jumps I thought I could maybe do a back flip.

To cut a long story short, I attempted the back flip, had about a 40m run up, went to air off the ramp and realised half way through the flip that the handle bars and the bike were not together:horrified  Landed on the back of my neck.

2 bruised vertabrae, ripped shoulder tissue, dislocated shoulder and broken shoulder blade.

About 2 months later tried it again and did the flip.

Dumb yea, but oh well:D

614591 2007-11-25 01:29:00 allblack - I thought they would set them off.

zqwerty - That sounds nasty. Some people say you can feel the metal when the temperature is cold, have you found this to be true? And if so how bad is it?

rob_on_guitar - Ha ha, I am sure we have all done stupid things like that.

I find it a tad ironic that I done this while going ~20kph... when I was going ~50kph down the street before the one where I had the accident and ~60kph down the main street...

The doctors say I can't use my right hand for a month at least... Come 7.30am tomorrow I will be back at work :D using my left hand of course.

So did I.....felt robbed when they didn't! :p

We went thru detectors at Wgtn, Akl and Nadi in Fiji.

Nothing.

But then...they are all calibrated differently. It's possible others especially in the US could be a lot more sensitive.
