| 614315 | 2007-11-23 07:34:00 | I have a recollection of something "for strings" - heard the first fews bars recently as the intro for a newish tv ad which reminded me. I have a reasonable classical collection but this piece eludes me and I have memories of hearing it as a radio signature tune in Ch when I was a child. |

| 614316 | 2007-11-23 18:36:00 | Not Elgars "serenade for strings" (I think Tchaikovsky had one with an identical name) Although i wasn't around back then, it reminds me af the AM station we were subjected to in the car with my grandparents click on the listen link next to the album image here (www.emusic.com) Classic Cat has a search facility and loads of free classic music This is the results of a search for "for strings" (www.google.com VLC%3A663399%3BAH%3Acenter%3BBGC%3AFFFFCC%3BLBGC%3 AFFFFCC%3BALC%3A0000FF%3BLC%3A0000FF%3BT%3A000000% 3BGFNT%3A0000FF%3BGIMP%3A0000FF%3BLH%3A50%3BLW%3A7 09%3BL%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.classiccat.net%2Fslogo.j pg%3BS%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.classiccat.net%2F%3BFORI D%3A1%3B&hl=en) ignore the slightly inappropriate google ads |

The Sunday morning request programme (YA, or was it ZB?) always played "Remembrance", by Gil Dech (discover.natlib.govt.nz/logicrouter/servlet/LogicRouter?PAGE=object&OUTPUTXSL=object.xsl&pm_RC=REPO04DB&pm_OI=186&pm_GT=Y&pm_IAC=Y&api_1=GET_OBJECT_XML&num_result=2). The YAs played music perfomed by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, conducted by Neville Marriner. He has been knighted since, probably not for providing the NZ YC playlist. The stuff they play much of the time today makes me wish for a return of the AofSMitF. |
