776633 2009-05-24 23:15:00 I have a Acer Aspire 5720 here that won't boot
It starts up trying to do a startup repair which it can't acheive.
Indicated problems include corupt regestry, rollback unsucessfull.
Tryed last known good, no go.
Tryed safe mode, no go.
Tryed repair from Vista DVD, no go.
Tryed system restore, no points set.
At this point I contacted the owner re saving data for re-install.
He advised there there was data he didn't wont to loose.
So removed HD & slaved to another system but could not access files.
Drive showed up as a 160GB Hitachi partitioned 50/50, OS & Data.
Attempt to access OS partion, windows cannot access, not appropriate permissions.
Attempt to access data partition, application not found.

776634 2009-05-24 23:43:00 Put HDD back in laptop and try booting from a Live Linux CD. You may then be able to locate and transfer the data to a flash drive. FoxyMX (5)
776635 2009-05-24 23:57:00 Don't have a "Live Linux CD" I guess I would have to create one.
I am more concerned with why I cant access the files.
I scanned the HD with Avast & found several trojans, took hours to scan.
Tryed to scan it with Malware Bytes but it wouldn't do it. Scan would start but stall after about 5 min. Then had to use task manager to stop it.
I am thinking the HD may have gone belly up.

776636 2009-05-25 00:00:00 You'll have to take ownership (support.microsoft.com) of it, before it'll let you have access. After you slave it. Or this (support.microsoft.com). Thats if youre using XP on this other PC Speedy Gonzales (78)

You could try Speedy's suggestion regarding taking ownership but I have found that having a Live Linux CD is very handy. Mine has been very useful many times.

776638 2009-05-25 00:15:00 Taking Ownership will definetly work. Blam (54)

Ok I'll try that.
I actually had it slaved to a Vista system but I can use a XP one but it's not quite as grunty.
This is the first one out of about 30 to have this issue with though.
