776564 2009-05-24 22:41:00 You mean BSOD??? If you do, whats it say?? Does it show the name of a file/driver? We need more info. ie: What version of windows is it, what service pack is installed? What was the last thing you installed (as in driver/program)? Speedy Gonzales (78)
776565 2009-05-25 00:19:00 He means Black Screen of Death(KSOD)

If its beeping then this is the BIOS, not vista.

What is the sequence of beeps?

776566 2009-05-25 02:26:00 Generally, its long beeps ( around 2 - 3 seconds) long and continous . And nothing comes on the screen. When windows does load, it gives around 10 - 15 minutes then hangs.

AM I to late?,I bought a external hard drive worth $ 250 yesterday. this problems stops me from backing up my pc

776567 2009-05-25 02:36:00 Could be a memory problem.

Download memtest, extract the iso from it and burn it to a CD:
www.memtest86.com

Boot from the CD and see if any errors are detected

776568 2009-05-25 02:39:00 Will do that ASAP
Hopefully my computer gives me enough time to do that

Thanks blam once again

Beeps as you describe can be Memory, then again it could be a CMOS battery, Graphic problem, depending on the BIOS on the Board, different BIOS's have different Beep codes.

Blam - Out of interest -how did you manage to come to the conclusion its Vista ??

Its not mentioned anywhere what the OS is. (even though the OS prob is not the problem & may very well be Vista)

776571 2009-05-25 03:15:00 If it is Vista, here's some solutions (www.logicitc.com)

One of these, or both of these may work

1. after the KSOD HD activity ended and i pressed shift for 5 or 8 times , the window came, i clicked yes.. but it hanged and freezed ..

2. i tried next time i rebooted, after clicking the shift for 5 or 8 times, the window appear, and there is a link on that window says :

Go to the Ease of Access Center to disable the keyboard shortcut

3. i clicked on that , an explorer window opens, in that window clear the link and type msconfig and run it.

4. in the selective startup i’ve unchecked the two options, apply restart.

5. windows started with explorer.

6. running msconfig again, enabling all under startup items and all under services, but I’VE UNCHECKED THE FOLLOWING :

A. Windows Event Log.

B. Windows Event Collector.

you don’t have to go and enable all the services one by one like THIS IS A REAL FIX!

And:

This solution worked indeed, but doesn’t completely solve the issue. Windows Event Log is useful for computer techs on solving other issues. Here is what I did following these steps to make the windows event log service function again. Apparently if the log files are corrupted, it causes windows event log to hang the system. Go to C:\Windows\System32\Winevt\ and rename your Logs folder to Logs_Bad, and make a new Logs folder

Run Services and change your Windows Event Log service to automatic, and set the Windows Event Collector service to Manual.
