Bummer if you are earning USD though....didn't the President of Iran recently propose de-coupling the price of oil from the US dollar? P.S. Nice catch with the 'aboriginal' Greg - at first I read the reply and was thinking what the...? |

| 614776 | 2007-11-26 00:43:00 | It's a rumbling hush-hush secret spoken in semi-private circles that is making the rounds with people who don't txtmsg . I'm afraid the US is in for some severe times and very soon . There's never been a real famine here . . but I bet it's coming . To the fact that everything we get in our hands and mouths arrives by diesel truck and/or diesel train, the current fuel crisis is likely to be the catalyst of the next wave of hunger and strife . . but this time not in Bangladesh or Peru . There will be rolling effects all over the world . . . and . NZ is not exempt . BLOG LINK HERE ( . plim . org/01%20usa_dollar_devalua . htm" target="_blank">www . plim . org) (not mine) I know the blog's old, but it's also just hovering in truth to the thing that has to happen . Mexico, Canada and the US have had talks about the new "Continental Dollar" (Ç) to compete with the Euro () and unite the whole North American continent into a force with which to be reckoned . Fat chance! To quote Pogo (Walt Kelley's character): "We have met the enemy and he is us . " The US Dollar devaluation especially in relation to NZ dollar means a lot to me!!! In fact i check the trend every few days and keep abreast on news about Economic groth n stock market/interest rates etc . I have a lot of funds stuck in NZ in Term deposit and i dont really need that right now but the Day US$1= NZ$1-----> I will jump n transfer the whole lot to US dollars :p . . . . dunno if that day will come or not . . . but i got a feeling the days of early 80s will return soon On the other hand, it worries me seeing the petrol prices / goods prices shoot up due to lower US dollar valuation . But since coming to US few months ago from NZ, even with the US dollar falling n prices rising for petrol everything seems super cheap! In NZ my Car took $80 to fill up and here even with a slightly larger engine car it takes only $45 to fill up . . . Electronics is super cheap . Laptops (high end) u can easily get it for under$1000 . Just few days ago during Thanksgiving sale I couldnt believe the prices in the flyers . Went on a crazy spending spree . . . ha ha On the other end insurance premiums n property taxes does hurt you . Everything is freakin taxed in someway . However Just comparing to what i earned in NZ and now in US on slightly lower salary in terms of exact dollar comparison, I save way more then what i did before - i . e more disposable $$ In NZ for me buying a brand new car was almost unthinkable and here I just went and bought a brand new spanking car with price cheap as and the interest on loan nearly half that of what Finance companies charge in NZ Not trying to diss NZ but just giving my Comparision . |
