Stop all the scans etc, you may shorten the life of the drive and never be able to get the data off.

Open a command prompt, navigate to a folder where you want the data saved to, eg. C:\backup> then run the xcopy command eg. xcopy "d:\documents and settings\name" /e

776655 2009-05-25 04:12:00 I think you are right. I've come to the conclusion the HD is on it's last legs.
I'll give that a try. Back to basics.

776656 2009-05-25 04:34:00 No dice there either. Goes a little bit further before it starts to grunt.
I would have to break everything down into small groups to save them, would take forever. I'll consult the owner before proceeding.
Thanks all for your help.

776657 2009-06-02 01:19:00 Ok some progress on this job.
Have got a new 250GB HD installed.
Have reinstalled the OS & are looking for drivers now.
I wasn't able to extract them off the old HD.
The Acer site dosent seem to have the chip or vidio drivers.
It has Audio, Bluetooth & Camera.
