You can actually read whatever it is your measuring but its annoying . Im reasonably confident it is the display itself and Ive checked & changed the batteries without making any difference . I seem to remember reading somewhere that LCD displays sometimes pull this trick and can often be restored by placing the device in the fridge . Can anybody confirm or deny this unusual remedy? :D |

There's a fault either in the LCD display or in the driver chip. One of my cheap meters turns on all segments when it gets too hot (out in the sun on hot degree days) but just putting it in the shade for a while corrects that condition. The Fluke meters seem to stand it better, but I try to remember to keep them all in the shade. One of my Flukes has some "weak" segments; temperature makes no differnce to that. |

Connections to the LCD are made via conductive rubber of some sort so I take out the LCD and clean both sets of contacts with contact cleaner and a cottonwool bud. If it is not a bottom of the line cheapie with everything wired in, yours may be similar and a good way to check is to twist the meter gently in the longitudinal direction and see if the display changes, or maybe press gently on the top. | 615589 | 2007-11-29 18:55:00 | Thanks Guys . Well just for the records the Fridge Chill (Not freeze) made not a blind bit of difference . However, the screen has gradually improved on its own accord whilst Ive used the beast and is now perfectly normal . This has got me thinking and I wonder if the problem could have been that it hadnt been turned on for about six months . Im not up with the play on the finer points of LCD displays but it makes me wonder if they dislike not having any voltage applied to them for long periods of time? Temperature shouldnt have been a factor as the meter had been sitting in a draw of my office desk . |

It may well be that your LCD has simply shuffled off to that great recycing bin in the sky . If it was a cheap meter, this is even more likely . You might have to let the moths out . Worse, Sigmund had no knowledge of it, Although, if he had lived another 60 or so years I guess I could have consulted him, But, I dont think he would have been of any help. Regardless, it (the multi meter) has taken it upon itself to return to normal without any help other than some Anglo Saxon threats. It is encouraging that these days electronic equipment has been programmed to understand Anglo Saxon. Anyway, I thank you all for your help in my moment of need and may somebody be with you. |

| 615592 | 2007-11-30 19:14:00 | Billy, it hurts me to have to inform you that my Multi-Meter is neither a Banana nor a Cigar! . . . but it MIGHT be the train tunnel! Worse, Sigmund had no knowledge of it, Although, if he had lived another 60 or so years I guess I could have consulted him, But, I dont think he would have been of any help . Would it be a house call or could you take the meter to his couch at his office? Regardless, it (the multi meter) has taken it upon itself to return to normal without any help other than some Anglo Saxon threats . Are you qualified to justify your statement that the meter has returned to "normal"? What IS normal for it, anyway? It's always about SEX isn't it? Sex Sex Sex! It is encouraging that these days electronic equipment has been programmed to understand Anglo Saxon . I think "multi-" in the name also applies to linguistic capacities too . Anyway, I thank you all for your help in my moment of need and may somebody be with you . Glad to be of assistance . . just stop posting questions about multi-meters with sexual hangups . . . OK? |
