615035 2007-11-25 07:48:00 Hi

Does anybody know how much it costs to buy replacement Windows XP CDs from Microsoft? Do they have a bulk pricing scheme?

How about HP? Anybody bought one from them?

I'm in trouble with Trade Me as they say I must provide the XP CD with any computers I sell that have XP!

615036 2007-11-25 08:10:00 Tell trade em to suck on it, Partition off a section of the HD and copy the contents of the cd to it. Provide a CD that boots into dos, and instuctions for the buyer to find and run the EXE that starts the install/reinstall.

If its good enough for the goose.......

615037 2007-11-25 08:17:00 I already provide recovery partitions.

It's not good enough for TM - they want me to provide the "original CD", or I can't sell them.

That, or sell them formatted blank. Fat chance of making a profit doing that...

HOLY CRAP!

In the USA they are only $10! Perhaps I should import a hundred or two...

If they do know, send them a copy of the EULA, noting the parts that say you are allowed to onsell it with the COA (or noting the bits that don't forbid selling it with no CD).

They do know. The current EULA says that system builders must provide the CD when selling computers. It looks like (at least in TM's interpretation) this applies to used PCs as well.

I've sent them an e-mail anyway, but they won't budge, I can pretty much guarantee that. This is also supposedly my third warning for "listing items that may be illegal to sell".

If they go through all my auctions and apply the same logic I will rack up a heap of so-called "warnings" and then something terrible will happen :o. The Trade Me communication systems are so shocking that I've had the same auction be complained about by multiple staff members, racking up warnings, with nobody knowing of anyone else's involvement.

So, I hope I can sort it all out quickly.

What crap. Then they'd have to withdraw all the Compaq/HP/Dell/Acer PCs for sale on TM.
They don't have Windows CDs when they come new!!!!!
