| 616934 | 2007-12-01 21:06:00 | I am building south of Auckland, high on a hill and in direct line of site with both Waitakere TV Mast and Sky Tower. I am about 30 - 40 kms away. Which tower has the strongest signal? Therefore, which should I choose? Also, I will have a concrete tile roof. Can I put the TV aeriel inside the roof (very strong winds) without signal degredation? |

| 616936 | 2007-12-01 22:29:00 | waitakere is the strongest and if line of site you could get away with fitting the aerial in the roof. you loose a bit of signal but hopefully there will still be enough. not recommended for UHF however. a case of try it and see. | tweak'e (69) | ||

Gee that stirs some memories and takes me back a year or three... In the late'50's/early '60's I used to install TV in Auckland.(Steam powered in those days) I was working, changing the arial direction on the day the signal transmission was changed from the city to Waiatarua. From memory we used to hang the VHF arial inside the tile roofs using heavy string, Pretty hard to line up from inside so we used to take a compass reading from the outside and use that for setting the direction. Don't know about UHF. That was years away at that time. Ken :cool: |

| 616938 | 2007-12-02 05:19:00 | The way to go would be a UHF only antenna pointed at Waiatarua for the now being installed DTT service. The frequencys to be used have been posted over at www.dtvforum.co.nz. There are also google pins there that you can download for the various sites so you can plot the signal path in Google Earth. Interestingly In summer condtions down here in Nelson I use to pick up Waiataru UHF. A distance of 498 KM!! |
