616013 2007-11-28 10:36:00 Hi friends, did anyone here work for a Big 4 accounting firm upon graduating college? If so, how many hours did you work? Does it pay well compared to private accounting? What area did you work in? Could you travel as much or as little as you wanted? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as job recruiting at my university starts next month! blueheaven (13073)
616014 2007-11-28 17:14:00 Google shows "Big 4" is a group of American accounting practices. This is a New Zealand website so it is most unlikely anyone here would have worked for one of those firms. I notice from your IP you are not from America either? You would be best to find an accounting forum in the USA to ask these questions. Jen (38)
616015 2007-11-28 20:05:00 blueheaven: I have worked for a Big 4 company in NZ - wont say which one though . I had mates that also worked for big 4 as well but like me they have also left .

I joined the firm pretty much as a grad . They do tend to overpromise the lifestyle of travel etc but in saying that i did get to go overseas with them a few times .

You tend to earn a bit more than the non big 4 firms but you have to work pretty hard . The competition is fierce for promotions etc .

In saying all that I wouldn't be in my job today if it wasn't for my big 4 experience . It always looks great on the Cv and the best part is that you get taught in a very structured manner i . e best practice . Some people may argue that this is basically a 'chip insertion' technique but I found the things I learnt at the big 4 to be very useful .

If I was you I would go for it . . .

BTW: I moved on from the big 4 for family reasons . .

Nice knowing you blueheaven, but advertising on this forum is not permitted.
