777209 2009-05-27 08:02:00 Thanks Speedy - Should work now: free video movie editing software... (pcsourcepoint.blogspot.com) kahawai chaser (3545)
777210 2009-05-27 08:10:00 I used to use Super, but the last version I downloaded and tried was crap. Everything was out of sync So, that was the end of that Speedy Gonzales (78)
777211 2009-05-27 09:33:00 They're forever listing media type freebies on GAOTD, keep watching and something suitable will come up Ofthesea (14129)
777212 2009-05-27 09:54:00 I have started using handbrake so much easier than super that seemed to be a minefield to navigate handbrake, dvd flick and dvd shrink are what I use 99% of the time now gary67 (56)
777213 2009-05-28 00:33:00 Hi People – Thanks for the help so far but more advice needed.
HandBreak – If I go to SOURCE > VIDEO_TS FOLDER I get the following error message (Thanks to BLAM6 for his CTRL C tip on error messages in a previous post)
Error
No Title(s) found. Please make sure you have selected a valid, non-copy protected source.
Your Source may be copy protected, badly mastered or a format which HandBrake does not support.
Please refer to the Documentation and FAQ (see Help Menu).
OK
If I go to SOURCE > VIDEO FILE, select the desire .VOB file, then choose the MPEG-4 (xvid) vodec and want to output it as an AVI file (with frame rate “Same as Source” or 24 fps it says it’s going to take over 11 hours!! Is this right> What am I doing wrong? Any advice from HandBreak experts gratefully accepted.
I then tried Virtual dub V. 1.8.8, went to the desired .VOB file and got the following message:
VirtualDub Error
MPEG Import Filter: invalid pack at position 3: marker bit not set; possibly MPEG-2 stream
OK
The HELP file also talks about using cables from a DVD or TV in the importing process which seems a bit of old hat so have I got the most up to date version?
Once again can I say that I’m not wanting big video production stuff here. It’s just basically data conversion and transfer so that I can get VIDEO_TS.VOB files into Windows Movie Maker (or similar free software) to chop out three minutes here, five minutes there, to reduce an hour’s interview to 15 relevant minutes for course assessment purposes.
Thanks

777214 2009-05-28 02:15:00 Addendum

The file I want to edit is a straight off one hour recording - wifey just let the camera roll. Do I need to consider the related .BUP and .IFO files in all this?

777215 2009-05-28 08:03:00 I initially had that error trying to read of a DVD disc so copied to HDD with DVD shrink but used no compression (copies quicker than try to do it manually) then I selected the TS files from my HDD and it worked gary67 (56)
