2007-12-02 01:45:00 | You'll need a satellite dish, the terrestrial version (which uses an aerial) isnt out yet I think. It costs nothing, but you'll need the receiver (search.dse.co.nz 6a8&site=&w=freeview&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&submit=Go) to see it about $2-300.00

We have an aerial on the roof at the moment and was wondering a . how much it costs and b . is it worth getting hi-def quality on our old rear projection 29"? Thx Hig Def it arn't . Worth getting - Yes . Worth putting anything on a old rear pro - No  You can buy a dish if you don't have one and a Freeview decoder off Trade Me, You can even be adventurous and install it yourself, I have done one, It's pretty easy, get a compass and a way you go . There will be 18 channels all up, So the freeview guy tells me A date has been set to turn off the old analogue TV sets, as the final switch to Digital should be complete within five years . More here . co . nz/view/page/1467729" target="_blank">tvnz . co . nz So we will all have to make the move at some stage, Which sucks when you think of all the 14" TVs in peoples bedrooms etc . . . Rabbit ears will not do . Terrestrial Freeview Pro: Terrestrial will be High Def (720 or 1080 line) which will be 720p or 1080i Con: Unfortunately it wont be available in all areas when it is officially launched . |

2007-12-02 03:46:00 | During next year we should see TV sets with built in Digital Decoders which will save buying Freeview Decoders, they are already available overseas. Also Better Decoders will be available a bit like MySky that can record and have Live view on them, also available overseas. Terrestrial which is supposed to start partway through next year will use UHF Aerials. http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/ list of channels www.freeviewshop.co.nz If you have a Sky Satellite dish you can get a TV Card and split your sky cable and feed Freeview channels to your PC. See other recent threads on this.

2007-12-02 03:58:00 | "Turn off the old analogue TV sets..." Actually the "old TV sets" simply plug into the Freeview box to get digital channels. So if you wish you can distribute Freeview to all those old 14inch sets in bedrooms - just run the aerial cable through the house. (Of course they won't display HD or wide screen.) Those old tv sets will be allowed to pass away gracefully in the fullness of time unless the household budget runs to wide screen HD LCD with DTT before the fullness of time.

2007-12-02 05:31:00 | Yeah I realise that I got that from the TVNZ website, They worded it wrong. But yeah you will have to have a decoder for each of those old TVs and run a cable from your Dish or UHF aerial to them, Which is a lot more of a hassel that pluging in some Rabbit ears.

2007-12-02 05:50:00 | which is fine if you want the same channel on all tv's. I just watched the v8 supercars on it. Thats one of the main reasons I got it. Hope TV3 have a channel for it next year. | wotz (335) | |

2007-12-02 06:37:00 | You need a High Definition TV which is about a 1080p 1920x1080 pixel LCD to get best results and a hdcp cable. But its complete overkill for most people. Free View currently does not have much channels. | JUST INSANE (6682) | |
