| 616864 | 2007-12-01 03:17:00 | Hay get a load of this, and I think I am one born sucker, On Thursday I got a new computer and stuck it on my credit card, When I got home I got a letter in the post from my bank, it had my bank name on it a very professional made letter made of thin cardboard, there is no doubt it looks as if it came from the bank . It said "we've taught your (credit) card a new trick" 9 . 95% P . A . for 6 months on every purchase over $250 until 31 December 2007 Call us on 0800 xxx xxx to enjoy this great interest rate . (Now this is lower than the normal 20 . 95%) I thought well why not, lets just save a buck or two, So I rang the 0800 number The first thing I noticed is this 0800 number is not the same as the normal 0800 number I use for phone banking, I told the person who answered I had made a purchase over $250 they asked for my registration number & then got me to key in my PI Number on the phone, Only to discover that if I went with this plan I would have to start paying interest today unlike the original plan were you have a month before you have to start paying interest . Then the penny drop it occurred to me that this could be a variant in a new untested fraud scheme for someone to have a very happy & merry new year . This is how it works, (1) you get people credit card numbers . (2) you get their name & address . (3) you make up some very flash professional mailers . (3) you set up a new 0800 number . (4) you make a electronic device so when someone presses a number on the phone a number will be displayed on a device at he other end . So for example when someone presses 1234 on the phone 1234 will show up on this device at the other end . (I am a electronics technician, I know it could be done) All you have to do now is to post your mail and wait for the suckers to phone in . On reflection, after I gave out my details,-+ and thought of this scheme, I looked in the white pages, the 0800 is not listed in there, if I had thought of this scheme before I rang I would not of rang . I also rang the bank on there other 0800 number (listed in the phone book) they do not know anything about these mailers . IF YOU GET THIS OFFER OR ANYTHING LIKE IT IN THE MAIL, CHECK IT OUT BEFORE YOU GIVE OUT YOUR DETAILS . |

| 616866 | 2007-12-01 03:45:00 | Far too involved. You just send people at random an email and say go to this site and type in all your details. Thousands do. Or like a friend told me the other day, she got a text from a 4 digit ph number, no idea who, telling her to go click on this web link. So she did. People are stupid. |

We need to keep on our toes otherwise the criminals will win. Why would it be bad mouthing a bank ? Shouldn't people know what so called bank it is ? Now a few questions: Did the flyer come with your Credit card number already printed on the inside ? Not everybody has a PiN for their card, so if they don't have your CC number, what is the point of getting your pin. ? (unless they come and mug you and take your card). Do you still have the mailer/flyer...or did you throw it out ? Could you take a picture of it. |

| 616870 | 2007-12-02 02:17:00 | On of my favorite scams was perpetrated by a guy who went into a bank where he had a small savings and checking account, took home a bunch of the counter top deposit slips and imprinted his account number on them in the bar code on the bottom of the slips . He later went back every few months or so and slipped a few randomly into the stack and when people took one for themselves, no matter what account number they wrote on the forms, the bar code took precedence . A few years of this and a lot of misdirected monies into his account got him a sizable amount of money on which to retire . He's currently retired in prison, but they never found all the money he has supposedly hidden somewhere . He gets out soon and will be vacationing in NZ I hear . |

I go to work I earn money & I pay tax on that, I earn more money a lot more money than I pay on tax, (well not a lot but the odds are better) and so I dont mind paying tax, the Government has got to pay for their hair brain schemes, like money to America cup that is one crap un-SPORTing function and they should be ashamed of themselfs and a new yacht cup event should be started, (but now we are getting off the subject) . However with the banks it is the reverse, I pay heaps with the banks thought bank fees and I dont earn a cent, well that is not true I do earn from one account, but at the end of each financial year my net income from the banks is exceeded by net expense, yet I pay tax, let say at a rough guess at the end of this financial year I might of paid less but close to say $100 while at he same time may of paid about $5 in tax . Why should we pay tax via our bank when bank fees exceed income? |

| 616872 | 2007-12-11 13:39:00 | What bank was it ? does it matter? fraudsters could have a flyer for each bank Why should we pay tax via our bank when bank fees exceed income? it's called GST among the other taxes, as the bank is providing a service - why shouldn't we pay it? though it's pretty rude being taxed on income when earning, saving and then spending it, how else will the govt get money to throw away on fruitless endeavours while underfunding important things like health and education? |

| 616873 | 2007-12-11 20:17:00 | I pay heaps with the banks thought bank fees ] Why? Plenty of them are offering a flat rate monthly fee, or no fees at all. I pay no fees on my personal account. I just have no cheque book, no mailed statements and do everything online. Thus, no fees at all, not even "maintenance" fees. |
