616809 2007-12-01 02:17:00 I just pulled an internal card reader that came installed with an older machine and installed it in my newer machine. It plugs into one of the USB connections on the motherboard.

Thing is, it didn't need to be detected by XP at all - it just runs. Why doesn't it need a driver? Even a USB flash drive gets detected on first plug-in.

You may want to see if there is software available for the card reader anyway as sometimes the proper drivers give each drive the icon for which memory card it represents rather than using the default XP drive icon.
