777726 2009-05-28 15:02:00 There's a 500 gig drive going on Webuy.

I'm considering it. What do you reckon?

777727 2009-05-28 17:43:00 Seems a lot to pay for a 500gb these days - unless you are after the smaller 2.5 inch drive size

Harvey Norman have a 1Tb Maxtor Basics Jade drive on special at the moment for $236 as part of their Queens Birthday sale

777729 2009-05-28 22:05:00 It is a 2.5 inch Hitachi.

Not for me I'm afraid.

No it isn't, 2.5" drives(portable) have always been expensive.

Thats a 3.5". Seems Greg wants a portable one.

Greg-I personally stock 500gb 2.5" External Hard drives(with WD HDs inside) for around $235, so that webuy deal is a bit of a rip off.(they use cheaper Hitachi drives too!)

Heres one thats slightly smaller(400gb) but has a WD HD inside and also has eSATA, if your laptop/desktop has this connection transfering stuff will be much quicker:)

777734 2009-05-29 07:20:00 Greg, are you after a 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch?

Just to explain the pros and cons of each:

2.5"

Pros:
-Portable
-USB powered only

Cons
-More expensive than 3.5"
-Slower than 3.5"

3.5"

Pros:
-Fast
-Cheap

Cons
-AC Powered
-Massive
-Heavy
