i have a compaq cq45 running vista business which i keep plugged into a usb hub with mouse/keyboard and use a lcd screen. I usually keep the lid closed but cannot awaken the laptop if it is in sleep mode using a external mouse. Is there anyway i can configure it to wake up with me having to open the lid and press keys to wake it up? |

Thats why its called wakeup, you press a key or move the mouse. To wake it up. The kb or mouse may not like the hub. Some USB devices dont. Is SP1 or 2 installed? If you dont like it, disable the option |

makes no diff if using a hub or the actual ports. Vista SP1. I thought there was an option to enable the computer to wake up, in the USB port properties but it seems greyed out |

Thats what most laptops do (when you close the lid). You still have to open it to see the screen anyway (unless you've got x-ray eyes). There's probably a switch on the side (when you close it, so it shuts down / goes into sleep mode). So, its either leave the lid open, or stop it from going to sleep / hibernation mode |

i use a external lcd screen, so there is no point keeping the lid open, maybe im looking for a docking station or something.... |

Dunno unless there's a way to make the LCD the default monitor. That could be why (the laptop screen is the default monitor)? Try a PS/2 mouse, it may not wake up with a USB mouse? |

i dont mind it sleeping, and i turned off the option to make the laptop go to sleep when the lid is closed, i just want to leave the lid closed while i use a normal screen/keyboard/mouse. and just move the usb mouse to wake the laptop, not open the lid to tap the touchpad |
