2009-06-02 02:15:00 | When I try to defrag my laptop I get a message to the effect that "my file system performance can be improved. It is recommended you defrag now". I click ok and it starts analysing the drive and then goes back to that same error message after about 15 seconds. I can't get past this message. Anyone?

2009-06-02 02:17:00 | IIRC the windows defrag needs about 15% free hdd space, someone correct me if im wrong. have you tried using defraggler? much better than the windows one

2009-06-02 02:37:00 | Thanks Blam, Yes I have about 75% or more HHD free space. I hate running CCleaner as it removes all my passwords!!!!! However if there is no other solution I guess that is it. | theother1 (3573) | |
2009-06-02 02:42:00 | I have checked the Windows user forum and people there have the same issue. However the work arounds don't appeal that much, as I don't know if I can trust the posts. They also suggested getting rid of AVGfree, something I am loath to do as I have been using it for so long. I know others here will suggest avast and a few other programs but I don't want to pay for one. Call me cheap. | theother1 (3573) | |
2009-06-02 02:43:00 | Avast home is free, you dont have to pay for it. Add whatever site to ccleaner / options / cookies, then it wont delete its passwords | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2009-06-02 03:00:00 | Hm...Seems to be a common problem. If you already have 75% free space then that is not the problem. Also, in CCleaner you can untick the option "remove saved form data" so CCleaner does not remove your passwords. Open up command prompt(run>cmd) and type in chkdsk /f and hit enter. Reboot when it is finished, and try defrag again, in safe mode(tap F8 on boot and select Safe Mode) Blam

2009-06-02 03:05:00 | Ok. I am now a proud user of avast and CCleaner (set so it won't remove my passwords - I hope) However, I still have the problem with Defragging!!!!! | theother1 (3573) | |

Cannot lock current drive. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time you restart Y/N" |
