| 778799 | 2009-06-01 07:24:00 | A mate has an old Compaq Evo P3 laptop thats HDD failed after all these years. No big deal, but he had his name on the Compaq Splash Screen when the computer first booted. We thought it must have been a small file on the HDD which we couldnt find, but lo and behold it is still there with a new HDD fitted. This led me to conclude it must have been written to the BIOS somehow????:confused: Anyone able to explain this phenomena? Could be useful. :D :thanks |

| 778801 | 2009-06-01 10:38:00 | Thats what I was thinking Blam, but the BIOS in this old computer is real basic being a: Compaq 686DF V2.47 10/13/2001. The crowd where he purchased the Computer must have had someone who new how to flash the BIOS and embed his name without wrecking everything else. Im still curious because Ive never seen it done before. |

| 778805 | 2009-06-01 11:38:00 | B.M. It'll be a BIOS option. Most compaq systems have had it for years, certainly well before the 2001 build date of your one - I've seen 1998 bricks that had it. | Erayd (23) | ||

| 778808 | 2009-06-02 01:53:00 | I have a Compaq Deskpro EP... In the BIOS setup is an option to add a text string that can be displayed at POST. I think you'll find that is just the thing |
