778127 2009-06-01 06:14:00 linux unlike windows does not support spaces, if you have spaces in the file name then you get something like "%20" that why in linux you need to use _ or - in the files names.

Hope this is of some help :)

Where'd you get that from Stu? Linux supports spaces in its filesystems just fine, and has done ever since it was first created. Samba is quite happy to use spaces too.

778128 2009-06-01 06:14:00 Odd, until now i never noticed any issues with spaces.

I don't know what it is but I copied 18.7gig of music from whs to ubuntu and after all the the "invalid argument" errors only 8gig got across

If it isnt that then what could cause my copyin problems?

Just about anything. You need to try and work out what file (or group of files) is causing the error - then we might be able to be a bit more useful.

Can you give us examples of the files which won't copy (file name, type, size)?

778132 2009-06-01 06:54:00 Does an of your music have characters like ; or ? in them? Blam (54)
778133 2009-06-01 06:56:00 well its just about any file

random music files (mp3, wma) with or without spaces, 500k to 10mb
pictures of all formats ranging from 2k to 4mb
and executables etc in my cpu monitoring tool etc which i carry with me

there seems to be no pattern

im hopin like hell its not my hard drive issues corrupting the files on the server

778134 2009-06-01 07:28:00 May be barking up the wrong tree so to speak - but did a bit of reading -- seems its something to do with Samba in Ubuntu.

Have you tried doing the copy from WHS to Ubuntu, and not Ubuntu from WHS ?

778135 2009-06-01 07:32:00 no i havent actually, will do hueybot3000 (3646)
778136 2009-06-02 00:57:00 I haven't looked at it in detail, but IIRC WHS allows you to set up a web server - don't know about an email server though. Tony (4941)
