778097 2009-05-31 11:43:00 ok tried that and it doesnt find anything

also went through the "connect to a server" and selected windows share.

it came back "cannot display location "smb://servername/" Failed to retrieve share list from share

Rather than using the server name, use the IP address. You will probably need to specify a username/password.

Can you confirm that you are able to ping the WHS box from your Ubuntu server?

Can you also check what "workgroup" is specified in /etc/samba/smb.conf, and whether it's in the same workgroup as your WHS server?

In a Console window, type "ping [your whs server name or ip address]" without the quotation marks.

778105 2009-05-31 12:27:00 and i dont find anything when i ping it

Can you do it the other way around - if you remote desktop into your WHS machine, can you ping your Ubuntu server?

Start-Run
Type "cmd" without the quotes and hit enter
Type "ping [your linux server ip]" without the quotes and hit enter
