778087 2009-05-31 10:23:00 Sorry Somebody -- Went off on a tangent there -:o The one that needed a reboot was the Linux UserOS - once its rebooted, I have to manually go in and restart the Remote desktop - Cant seem to get it to auto run on a reboot.

WHS logs in fine, even the RealVNC or Team Viewer if I'm servicing a customers server remotely and need to reboot it.

I'll PM you so we don't hijack this thread any further.

Regarding the issue with autostarting VNC, there are two approaches you could take.

1) Connect to the server using SSH and manually start VNC

2) You can try getting VNCServer to automatically start by following something like: www.pclinuxos.com or www.arearelax.org

I'm not familiar with your particular version of Linux, but I suspect the procedure would be very similar.

I typically administer my linux servers over SSH, primarily because they're the sort of 'set and forget' type of systems. For example, I have a server which acts as my fileserver, and after I set up Samba sharing back in February, I haven't really touched the config at all.

I know just enough to get by - Erayd is the resident Linux guru, particularly with server admin issues.

What do you get when you type:
smb://[IP Address of your WHS server]/[share name]/

Into the file browser (Nautilis? Whatever it's called).

You should have the samba client installed already, you only need the full samba package to share directories. You should be able to see it under your network places in Nautilus, just check that you have the smbclient package installed first.

Edit: Actually, you might need the smbfs package too, though I'm not sure.

I thought smbclient comes installed by default for Ubuntu? (I don't actually use Ubuntu for anything anymore, so I'm not 100% sure. I seem to recall windows file shares would "just work" when I played with it a couple of years ago).

Yeah you're right it should be there installed by default and just work, the smbfs package shouldn't be needed either.
