778077 2009-05-31 06:55:00 yep like anything, once you know the programs its alway easier.

All this Talk about Linux-- just thought I'd log in remotely to run any updates -- heap of crap wont allow the remote desktop.

So now I have to go out to the workshop , reboot the damn thing, then it will work ( usually).

Is this your Linux server, or another Windows server?

778084 2009-05-31 09:14:00 You need to have samba / installed and running. I alos had good suscess after installing one other program --- I'll see if I can locate it.

I also found on mine I had to have them in the same work group ( I do know a little about Linux but not a lot)

Do a google search, on how to set up Samba for windows Networks.

Edited -- OK to share the folders better on Linux on the windows network, I used "Thunar"

778085 2009-05-31 09:33:00 Is this your Linux server, or another Windows server? Servers I have -- WHS X 2 (only one has the connector/ auto backup) that has remote desktop access over the LAN by using realVNC ( to make new folders, set permisions etc).

I do have another PC using XP home with Apatchie and a FTP program - Thats for helping people on here, if I have a program or something, SOMETIMES I give out the user name / password and they can download it from me. PM's only though :D

Also have Xbuntu UserOS (darrenyates.com.au) -- It's actually a modified version from PCUSER, oct 2008 - I tried to copy it by using Ubuntu, but didn't work to well.(kept dropping the shares) Thats the one I mentioned above by using Thunar, But it didn't work as well as the UserOS one.

Edited:
All the PC's / Servers have remote desktop access Via RealVNC. WHS ( #1) I use its inbuilt console, as well as VNC if needed.

778086 2009-05-31 10:20:00 Sorry Somebody -- Went off on a tangent there -:o The one that needed a reboot was the Linux UserOS - once its rebooted, I have to manually go in and restart the Remote desktop - Cant seem to get it to auto run on a reboot.

WHS logs in fine, even the RealVNC or Team Viewer if I'm servicing a customers server remotely and need to reboot it.

Heres some examples of logging into a customer WHS remotely using Team Viewer - after a reboot. Welcome screen (www.imagef1.net.nz) and Asking for Admin Password (www.imagef1.net.nz) and finally logged in (www.imagef1.net.nz)
