Just dont even go there! Why are you thinking of Woosh over ADSL? I use it from time to time, its great for what I use it for. Loaned the modem etc to a friend for two months while Vodafone sorted out THEIR issues with the Vodem too... worked great for them, even outside of the official coverage zone, just had to have the Booster antenna aimed from the right end of the house and they were away laughing :) |

Well its not my views - its what customers tell me and what I have seen. Theres one in Mataura Island who can see the tower - its very close, he has no sheds or trees in line of sight and its still crap speed. He got 100 odd too. I don't know what they have done, but the Woosh complaints have increased lately. Orcon is doing a big push with extend Wireless soon. All I can say is there may be a lot of people switching when they do. Its one thing if you are rural and haven't got a choice but Winston, you live in town, why would you want to? Why not just go with Xnet on normal broadband? You've read the positive comments they get, they are cheaper than Xtra and have a good helpdesk. Theres no contract to sign up for a year, no set plans for data. No penalty for not shifting tolls over. |

| 618331 | 2007-12-06 18:38:00 | I've been a happy(ish) Woosh Wireless customer for three years. My primary machine is a laptop with a Woosh PCMCIA card that goes with me to client sites. I chose Woosh originally because Telecom and Vodaphone rape and pillage when it comes to data charges, whereas, with Woosh, I can get satisfactory speeds (much better than dial-up, 98% of the time) for $55 a month (nice and predictable) with a 20GB cap (which I've only come near once). I also have my PC at home hooked up (24/7) on the other kind of Woosh modem (about the size of a Palm Pilot), on the same account - shh! don't tell Woosh! - but even combined usage of the kids and my work needs doesn't get me too near my cap. Latency is a bit of a problem - I can and do use Skype through the Woosh connection, even though Woosh told me it probably wouldn't work (they told me this before they rolled out there WooshPhone service). The Skype connection drops occasionally, but I understand it does that sometimes on wired BB too. Gaming - I have been known to play a bit of Diablo II online - latency tends not to be a problem when you're playing with a strong character :) but I wouldn't even bother trying to play any of the newer games. My son plays Runescape far too many hours every day, and doesn't have a problem.... Disclaimer: I live and work in Auckland, so the coverage isn't too bad (although there are still a few dead spots). Don't know what it's like in Invercargill... I am now eagerly awaiting Wi-MAX - don't care who provides it, so long as I can get good speeds, anywhere, for a set price per month (no surprises) and a decent chunk of GB as a cap - similar to what I have now. Weather DOES affect reception, which can be a pain, but the predictability of my Woosh invoices overrides that temporary inconvenience. |

| 618332 | 2007-12-06 21:04:00 | My sister has had woosh wireless for quite a while now. It has improved a hell of a lot since she first got it & it is reasonable for web browsing & email now, but still not in the same league as ADSL. It is still no good for streaming media. | Greven (91) | ||
