778694 2009-06-01 01:58:00 Well the laptop is accessing it just fine so I'm not going to change anything there. EFFIGY (12530)
778695 2009-06-01 07:00:00 Well I can't get SP3 to re-install it. When I download it onto my flash drive with Vista the XP machine cant open it.
Mean while back at the original problem... I disabled the wireless network and connected the problem XP machine directly to the modem and told it to make a broadband connection....it made a dial-up connection. So I THINK the problem is with making an internet connection of any kind.

778698 2009-06-01 09:41:00 Follow the 2nd post here (forums.techguy.org). That file doesnt belong to XP or SP3. It maybe your wireless adapter

First go to Start>Run and type "services.msc" And Click OK.

Second, You will want to scroll to the bottom and You'll notice "Wired AutoConfig", This is a new feature with SP3 and needs to be enabled so we will want to Right+Click and Go to Properties.

There will be a Drop-down box that Probably says Manual. This needs to be changed to Automatic. Then Click OK.

After the previous steps have been followed Right+Click on "Wired AutoConfig" Again and Choose, "Start" Since the service hasn't officially been started we need to start it.

Reboot the computer just to make sure the change takes place.

This wireless adapter youre using may have installed a file that SP3 installs. As it says here (support.microsoft.com). The SP3 install may have overwritten it. See if there's a later version of the wireless adapter drivers, on the Dlink site then install them. If you've got the latest drivers, reinstall them again then reboot
