Were you having any issues with your drive prior to update? Did you have the same model? EDITED: After doing a firmware check with the Seagate Drive Detect, it states that no action is required. But this link shows that it is affected. seagate.custkb.com Call me confused?? Thanks for your help. |

| 778644 | 2009-06-01 02:24:00 | A customer of mine was having intermittant lockups, with the affected drives, run the firmware update and it stopped locking up. | wainuitech (129) | ||
| 778645 | 2009-06-01 03:05:00 | Ok. I have two of these drives. I have checked the serial numbers and only one is showing as being affected. As both drives show up as ST3500320AS in Windows I am not sure how to find which one is which. The firmware update advises to disconnect all other hdd's while flashing the firmware. Does anyone have any ideas how I can figure out which serial number relates to which drive? Thanks guys. M. |

| 778646 | 2009-06-01 03:56:00 | Have a look at the drives - each drive will have its own serial number written on it. It will show as S/N: xxxxxxxxxxxx (With X being the serial number) |

It will show as S/N: xxxxxxxxxxxx (With X being the serial number) Thanks Wainuitech, I just removed the secondary drive's sata cable and loaded windows again to find out the serial number of the boot drive . It turns out the secondary drive is the drive affected and the boot drive is not . All the problems seem to point to the boot drive (locking up, eventvwr reports and bios not seeing boot drive) . I would like to flash the boot drive also, but am hesitant as the serial number check via the seagate website says the drive is uneffected? When you flashed your drives were they all displaying the problems? Did you have any issues with the flashing? Thanks again for all your help, it is much appreciated . M . |

Should be the right page (seagate.custkb.com) BUT use the drive detect first if you have not already, and make sure the model Number is correct as well -- Follow the instruction on what to do - in creating a bootable CD from the ISO image -- then boot from the CD and follow on screen instructions. READ what it says in the Warning -- Pays to back up any data, just in case something goes wrong. Editd: theres also instruction on the same page that takes you through step by step. |

I have flashed the secondary drive without problem. The boot drive which has shown all the problems, is not affected according to checking of the serial number with the drive detect utility. I'll try and pick up a WD hdd tomorrow from the PBtech outlet store in town to do a drive image of the boot drive before I flash it. Thanks again for the help. |

| 778650 | 2009-06-01 06:13:00 | if a drive is not affected then there wont ( or shouldn't) be a fix for it - i wouldn't bother if its not in the list -- Mind you -- always good to have a spare drive for backups anyway. | wainuitech (129) | ||

Indeed . Both drives had the same old firmware . But only one showed as being affected . I've read that it could be due to when the drives were made . The boot drive although the drive detect states that it is not affected, is showing all the signs and problems that it is . So after trying everything else I can think of, I'm going to backup (when I get the new drive) and flash the drive . I think I'll probably end up using the WD as the new boot drive anyway . Has anyone had any issues with the Western Digital 500gb Green drives? Hopefully PBtech has them in stock . . . . M . |
