Jeff was a good guy, after Greg left he was the only guy I really trusted for reviews. I do believe his score on Kane and Lynch with the whole advertising thing played a big role in his termination. What I find extremely funny is this quote: (www.gamespot.com) " Q: Why was the Kane & Lynch video review taken down? A: Both the text and video reviews of Kane & Lynch went up on Tuesday, November 13. The morning of Wednesday, November 14, the video was taken down due to concerns of quality. Specifically, its audio was deemed inferior due to a faulty microphone. There were also concerns about the limited amount of footage, which was unrepresentative of the game in the review. " Pleaseeee...could you pull any more half ass excuses out of your pocket? It gets better... " Q: Why wasn't the video immediately reposted? A: Due to the crush of high-profile games being released the following week, there were insufficient resources to reshoot and re-edit the video review. " How many resources does it took to shove a camera on a tripod and film someone talking for 5 mins about a game? But what I love most about Gamespots cover up - if the Kane and Lynch review didn't get him fired, then why is that whole page (link above) pretty much dedicated to talking about it? Just my 2c |

I read on a forum post that if u say publically why someone got sacked u can be sued under Californian law. There's been no explanation from Gerstmann either so it kinda looks like the truth will come out really slowly if at all. Everything I've read fits in with the rant from the anonymous source referred to in my first post (including the stuff Gerstmann said himself - kotaku.com) so I think that's probably really from the inside Looks like the gaming journos there are trying to keep their independence from advertisers etc. Wouldn't be surprised if there are more defections - makes u wonder if there was more behind Kasavin and Rich Gallup leaving :groan: And now my rant: I think games like Kane and Lynch that are heavily promoted but either mediocre or outright flawed deserve to get panned the way Jeff did (the review's here nz.youtube.com) There'd be none of this hassle if Eidos had just made it a better game in the first place :) |
